Increasing numbers of television programs are developing interactivity with live audiences, either to correspond with the concept of the program (game shows, panel quizzes, talent shows, etc), or to get closer to the audience and television viewers.

Some of the interactive programs, past and present, include Opportunity Knocks, Stars in their Eyes, Big Brother.

The voting systems mainly employed are the same as those used for general assemblies. They permit polling of large numbers of participants, but do not allow for continuous voting; each device transmits the response received for a specific question, within a given time interval.
