Research tool

Based on a highly advanced methodology, Medianalyst is a system enabling audience appreciation to be measured for market surveys at the top end of the qualitative and quantitative scale.

In its Offline application, grouping a number of participants in one specific place, this methodological approach is little used in the French Marketplace, although it has been more widely employed in the United States since the 1980s. Conceived in 1994, with regular enhancements since, Offline Medianalyst offers numerous advantages compared to American polling systems.

No equivalent system corresponds to Medianalyst in its entirely original Online version.

The Medianalyst research methodology has already been used by television channels, record companies, radio stations, cinema distributors and all categories of advertisers, providing information of exceptional precision and clarity for their users.

The voting devices and the online interface are both designed to record instant, spontaneous responses, essential for a most accurate reflection of the participant’s impressions, observations or appreciation, as opposed to well-considered opinions obtained by traditional methodologies.

An unmatched methodology
With Medianalyst, the consumer, listener, spectator or television viewer reacts in real time and provides a spontaneous, anonymous opinion in a relaxed and entertaining way, without the need to reflect on the response, its formulation or others' judgement.

Fields of application
Marketing research firms using Medianalyst can conduct all types of surveys on behalf of their clients: opinion polls on speeches, visual material, sound or music extracts, video or film material, packaging, or any other material which can be subjected to public appraisal. The added value for the research firm comes from its sector-based expertise and its processing of the results (survey reports, graphs, video representations, and so forth).
Within an advertising framework, for example, Medianalyst can measure to what extent the message is understood, its pertinence with respect to the brand and the product, and its potential impact on purchasing tendencies. Medianalyst is also a valuable tool for positioning a product with respect to competitive offers and with respect to current market trends.

A typical Medianalyst session
Grouped offline sessions: All the Medianalyst participants are gathered in one place: a studio, cinema room, meeting room, etc. Using hand-held units with a graduated cursor, the candidates respond instantly as questions are asked or as audiovisual documents are presented. The responses are monitored simultaneously by the research institute and by the client.
Individual online sessions: The participants recruited online or via panel management institutes are guided to the test platform. Progression of the survey is automatic. The questions, materials and response prompts appear on the screen in a multimedia player, with two cursors along the edges which accompany the vertical displacements of the mouse.

Analysis

A Medianalyst survey report is composed of the following elements :

• Offline survey: a video support (cassette or DVD) containing the entire recording of the session with additional significant information.
• Online survey: a reporting interface for clear, real-time observation of the sample group's appreciation or dissatisfaction when subjected to an audiovisual program and questionnaires.
• An analysis report illustrated with graphs and charts summarizing the opinions recorded throughout the survey.
• Data files which can be easily processed using simple software tools developed specifically for Medianalyst or other widely used poll-processing tools.
